a man with down syndrome shares a happy moment with his carer

What is Supported Living?

Supported living enables adults with autism and learning disabilities to live in their own home or shared accommodation, while receiving personalised support tailored to their goals, routines and preferences.

Unlike residential care, supported living focuses on independence, skill-building, and community inclusion.

We work alongside individuals — not over them — ensuring they remain in control of their lives.

Supported living looks different for different people. So for someone this might be living independently at home with just a few hours of support a week, all the way through to full time care.

You may also be living with housemates, with your family, or living alone. Union Supported Living will work with you to figure out what kind of support you need, and will help you to put this in place. We provide support in your own place of residence.

Using our person centred support, we will explore if you need help with

  • cooking, cleaning, housework

  • shopping and managing your money or budget

  • advocating or providing signposting to benefits or services that you may need

  • personal care

  • taking medication and accessing healthcare

  • going to work, college, or vocational placements

  • socialising, exploring your hobbies, or planning trips

  • maintaining contact or communication with other members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in your care

  • ANYTHING ELSE that you need support with

The support we provide is really catered to what you require, and we offer support at a level that suits you.
