Our Commitment to Safe, High-Quality Support

At Union Supported Living, safeguarding and quality care are at the heart of everything we do.

We support adults with autism and learning disabilities to live independently and safely in their communities. Our approach prioritises dignity, respect, wellbeing and individual choice.

We work to ensure that every person we support receives safe, compassionate and person-centred care.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding means protecting people from abuse, neglect and harm.

Union Supported Living follows safeguarding principles outlined in the Care Act 2014 and works in partnership with local safeguarding authorities to ensure the wellbeing of the individuals we support.

Our safeguarding approach includes:

• Promoting a culture of safety and respect
• Recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns
• Ensuring all staff understand their safeguarding responsibilities
• Reporting concerns promptly and appropriately
• Working with families, professionals and safeguarding teams when necessary

All staff are trained to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.

Safer Recruitment

The safety of the individuals we support begins with the recruitment of our staff.

Our recruitment procedures include:

• Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks
• Identity verification
• Employment history checks
• Professional references
• Safeguarding training before working with service users

We recruit individuals who demonstrate compassion, reliability and a commitment to high-quality care. We hold ourselves to a high standard, and we expect the same level of quality within the people that we employ.

Staff Training & Development

Our team receives ongoing training to ensure they can provide effective and informed support.

Training areas include:

• Safeguarding adults
• Autism awareness
• Learning disability support
• Positive behaviour support
• Communication strategies
• Health and safety
• Mental capacity and consent

Our approach is informed by recognised guidance and good practice from organisations such as the National Autistic Society.

Person-Centred Care

Every individual we support has unique needs, strengths and goals.

We develop personalised support plans that focus on:

• independence and life skills
• wellbeing and emotional support
• community engagement
• personal goals and aspirations

Support plans are regularly reviewed to ensure they remain effective and responsive.

Partnership with Families and Professionals

We believe strong communication leads to better outcomes.

We work collaboratively with:

• families and carers
• social workers and commissioners
• healthcare professionals
• community services

Regular reviews and open communication help ensure the best possible support for each individual.

Monitoring Quality

We are committed to continuously improving our services.

Quality monitoring may include:

• regular support plan reviews
• feedback from service users and families
• staff supervision and training reviews
• incident reporting and learning
• service audits and improvement plans

This ensures we maintain high standards of care and accountability.
